 MODULE 8

 DRM, FROM RESEARCH TO IMPLEMENTATIONS

 Sept. 19 & 20
Module designed and coordinated by Professor Ernesto Damiani, University of Milan

The module "Digital Rights Management - from research to implementations" has the advanced technological aspects of DRM systems in its focus. Also, it will provide an overview of open research problems and ongoing developments in the DRM field.

The module starts by providing a brief but complete introduction to the encryption-related basis of technologies widely used in DRM systems, as well as on their current evolution trends. Also, prerequisites will be covered enabling discussing aspects of the various technical disciplines that intersect to form the DRM field.

The core of the module will be structured in three parts:

  • The introductory part of the module will address the traditional notion of DRM as a content protection technology, discussing various content protection technologies.
  • The second part of the module will deal with state-of-the-art and ongoing evolution of rights expression models and languages, which will lead to a consideration of current DRM architectures.
  • The last part of the module will provide a discussion of some of the more important DRM technologies that have been introduced into commercial markets, discussing how hardware-based DRM works and what it can do.

For more details see Section 8 homepage.
